Underlay
Behar recommends that the installation of a new carpet should always be accompanied with the replacement of the underlay. This will ensure that the flooring you have purchased performs fully to the required expectation, and prolongs carpet life by reducing wear and help sustain the carpet’s appearance.
Whilst underfoot comfort is often the most sought after benefit in an underlay, research has shown that too much softness under the carpet is directly related to loss of appearance and ultimately to premature wear.
This risk is at its highest in locations where carpet will be subject to heavy footfalls (such as halls, stairs and landings) or localised pressure from furniture (such as lounges and dining rooms).
In locations like these, rubber crumb underlays offer the best solution.
Rubber crumb underlay has a denser construction and lower compression rating than sponge rubber which enables it to resist pressure/force over a sustained period of time. This helps to prevent the backing of the carpet from becoming stretched, which would otherwise cause pile deterioration and ‘rucking’ – both of which undermine the carpet’s appearance.
Rubber crumb underlays help to keep carpets looking good for longer, even in the most demanding domestic and contract environments.
Not only does rubber crumb underlay help to preserve carpets, it also helps to preserve the environment too. Rubber crumb underlays are manufactured from recycled tyres and our suppliers use almost 3 million tyres per year which would otherwise end up in unsightly landfill sites.
New underlay minimises pressure marks and indentations caused by furniture and also, sound insulation is much improved as is increased heat insulation.
